Self Breast Exam

Early detection is the key to surviving breast cancer. Studies have found that the mortality rate of breast cancer could be reduced by as much as 90% if all lesions were detected at the earliest possible stage. The vast majority of breast cancers are found on manual examination.

The MammaCare method can detect lesions as small as 3mm. MammaCare training utilizes realistic breast models. These models help to educate a woman about the difference between normal and abnormal findings.

Private MammaCare educational sessions are offered through the Kishwaukee Community Hospital Wellness Department. The training takes about one hour and is provided by a certified MammaCare instructor. During the training you will utilize the breast models and perform your own breast self-exam.

By having your annual mammogram at KCH, you benefit from the top-of-the line digital mammography machine and the comfort of a mammo pad. A computer-aided detection system gives the radiologist an instant second opinion.

Pap Smear

This test checks for signs of cancer of the cervix. The main risk factors for cervical cancer are related to sexual practices. The KCH Laboratory analyzes pap tests for physicians using the TinPrep technology that more accurately detects cancerous cells.

PSA
A prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. PSA is released into a males blood by his prostate gland. The amount of PSA increases as a man's prostate enlarges with age.
Colonoscopy
Colon cancer may be preventable when the early warning signs are detected through routine screening (colonoscopy). A colonoscopy is a routine, safe, and effective procedure that visually examines the full lining of the colon to see if there are any problems.
